Meet Your workcampNE Board of Directors
Lisa Alger
Lisa is a native Vermonter who lives in Leicester, VT with her husband Adam and their 3 children. Lisa's 5 years of workcamp involvement began in 2004 when workcamp came to Brandon, VT, and Lisa's role that year was that of a resident whose home was a work site. Each night that week, Lisa and her family attended worship with the campers and soon developed many new friendships. By the end of that week, Lisa knew that she wanted to help bring to other communities what God had brought to Brandon and soon looked forward to July '05 when she would lead a crew in Concord, NH and then again in Kennebunk, ME in '06. Adam's workcamp experience also began in Brandon where he was a troubleshooter and then again in '05 through '08 and equally shares Lisa's love of serving Christ by serving others and sharing Christ with others through workcampNE. In 2006 their son Alex experienced his first workcamp and looks forward to returning in '09 along with his sister, Ashley, for her first workcamp. Samantha, although she might think she is old enough, will have to wait awhile as she is only 10. September of 2006, Lisa switched from teaching preschoolers to teaching Alex, Ashley and Samantha as they transitioned from public school to home school. Lisa also spends some of her time helping teach the 3-5 year olds in kid's worship at LifeBridge Christian Church and co-leads the Jr. High youth group, A.K.A. future workcampers.
Mark Belley Mark has been serving with workcamp since 2001. During this time he has served in the roles of crew lead, troubleshooter, night monitor, go-for, sound technician and leadership team. Mark has a patient heart willing to serve wherever needed. Mark’s wife, Kelly, has served workcamp as camp nurse during the same time period. Mark and Kelly’s two children are workcamp alumni and together have combined for 14 years of service. He is presently employed at Wilcox Ind., Portsmouth, NH as a tool and die programmer.
David Harrison Better known as “Super.” He has graced us as our guest speaker in 2006 and has been bringing students to camp over the past 4 years. As a result, David has actively sought to be much more involved in workcampNE, so he is the latest addition to the board, joining us in January 2009. Recently wed (12/31/2008), both he and his wife, Joanna, have been active in the workings of Church. Dave has recently accepted a Pastors position at Londonderry Christian Church after being the Associate/Youth Pastor at First Christian Church – Mason City, IL for 4+ years. David earned both his undergraduate B.A. in Preaching and his Master in General Theology at Lincoln Christian College & Seminary. His desire to grow leaders, provide insightful applications of scripture to real world settings, teaching, and creating dedicated followers of Christ, makes David a perfect fit for helping to drive workcampNE to the next level.
John Lund John has supported workcamp around the edges for about 4 years, however jumped in with both feet the summer of 2006 and felt a calling to become more involved if God presented the opportunity. (It looks like it has arrived J). What better way to share God's love and word than demonstrating it through actions and utilizing the great future of the church and the world with teenage and college age young adults. His two daughters Amanda and Victoria have also served in workcamps and continue to look forward for the opportunity each summer. He has been married for 25 years to a wonderful and spiritually talented woman named Ruth. John is an industrial engineering manager for United Parcel Service where he has also worked for 25 years.
Julie Neverman Julie has been involved with workcamp for the past seven years. She enjoys being a go-for because she gets to visit different work sites and meet different crews. Her children have also participated in workcamp: Erica for 7 years and Kyle for 4. She currently helps out with the youth group at her church and teaches elementary school in Londonderry. In her free time you’ll find her on a tennis court somewhere in NH.
Joel Scott Joel graduated from Lincoln Christian College (IL) with a degree in preaching in 2006 and has 1 year towards an M.Div., at Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, TN. Joel became connected to workcamp while interning at Manchester Christian Church (NH) in 2005 and his passion for the people of New England has continued to increase as his education has progressed. Besides interning with the church in Manchester, Joel has worked with churches in Ohio (go Buckeyes!), Illinois and now Tennessee, where he works with 9th and 10th graders. He is single (mostly because God hasn’t found anyone to put up with him!), yet hopeful, and is looking forward to working with new churches in the Northeast when the timing is right. Needless to say, Joel’s excited about helping workcampNE become more effective as a ministry and is looking forward to partnering with God as He continues to call people to himself through workcampNE’s efforts.
Ken Therrien Ken has been a part of workcamp for eleven years. He began by leading crews for the first four years then accepted the responsibility for organizing camp in 2003 when John & Michele Luzadder moved to Poland for a year. Ken’s passion for working with teens, growing leaders and demonstrating the love of Jesus to the community at large created a unique opportunity to serve God in a very exiting and tangible way. Ken’s wife of 28 years, Marcia, joined him in 2003 as an integral part of the ministry- supporting the efforts as a formidable administrator and spiritual partner. Both Marcia and Ken have been working with students for nearly 25 years. Their two children, Marc and Elyse have a combined workcamp service record of 20 years and 22 camps! When Ken isn’t leading the workcampNE efforts, he is working for TMSi Logistics, serving as their Vice President of Organizational Development.
